Living Outside Florida? How to Get Your Florida Fingerprints Done From Anywhere

You landed a job in Florida, or you’re applying for a Florida license. Then you hit a requirement you didn’t expect: your fingerprints have to go through Florida’s system. The problem is that you don’t live in Florida yet, and you can’t fly in just to get fingerprinted.

You don’t have to. You can get your fingerprints taken where you live, mail the card to us, and we’ll scan and submit it electronically to Florida for you.

Why you can’t just mail your card to the state

Many Florida agencies receive fingerprints electronically, the same way they come in from a Live Scan machine. A paper fingerprint card from another state doesn’t fit that process on its own. Card scanning bridges the gap: a Florida Live Scan provider scans your paper card and submits it electronically, just as if you had been fingerprinted in Florida.

How it works

  1. Confirm what your agency needs. Ask your Florida employer or licensing board which fingerprint card to use and for their agency code, often called an ORI number. Most use the standard FD-258 card.
  2. Get fingerprinted where you live. A local police department or fingerprinting service can roll your prints in ink on the card. Ask for trained staff; clean prints matter.
  3. Mail the card to us. Use tracking so you always know where it is. Mailing instructions are on our out-of-state fingerprinting page.
  4. We scan and submit it to Florida. Your card is scanned and sent electronically, and the results go to the agency that requested them.

There’s no payment up front. Once your card arrives, we email you a secure payment link.

Who uses this

Anyone outside Florida who needs a Florida background screening, including:

  • Nurses and healthcare workers moving to Florida, including travel nurses
  • Teachers and school staff
  • Real estate and insurance professionals getting a Florida license
  • Security professionals
  • Anyone whose new Florida employer requires fingerprinting before day one

Tips for a clean card

  • Fill out every field on the card before mailing. Missing information is one of the most common reasons for delays.
  • Don’t fold or bend the card. Mail it flat in a sturdy envelope.
  • Check the prints before you leave. Ridges should be clear, with no smudges or blank spots. If a print looks faded, ask for it to be redone.
  • Keep your agency’s code handy. It tells Florida where to send your results.
